A few months ago, I kicked off a process with our team seeking advice on how Social Edge could give back to the community this year. I had two specific focal points for the team. First, inspired by our internal "Freedom and Fairness" social justice conversations, I wanted to look at a charity or investment that would make a positive contribution to racial equality. Next, with a broader lens, I asked for suggestions on a charitable donation or investment that would be meaningful to both our clients and our employees.
Today, on #GivingTuesday, I am happy to announce two charitable contributions we are making on behalf of the Social Edge team.
First, we are backing our commitment to freedom and fairness with an investment in minority small-owned businesses and communities. On behalf of the team, Social Edge has made an investment in Cnote's Flagship Fund. This fund assists small businesses and community groups under-served by traditional lenders through their CDFI network. I am excited that we can help other small businesses like ours have access to capital to create jobs and value for their local communities.
Second, we have made a donation to the American Cancer Society. ACS is on a mission to free the world from cancer by funding research, supporting patients, and spreading the word on prevention and best practices through its expert network. Unfortunately, almost everyone knows a family member or friend that has battled this terrible disease. I felt that a donation to ACS would be an appropriate way to honor those closest to us that have fought, or continue to fight cancer. We will win!
While 2020 has been an unprecedented and challenging year for so many, we are proud to be able to support organizations like these and hope our contributions will inspire others to give back to their communities where they can.
Thanks,
Andrew Kratz
